Yes I did login as a normal user. It made no difference.

Check the DNN error logger. Does it log any kind of errors when you try to use the Image Manager? It could also be a permissions problem. Make sure your normal user has the correct permissions to any folders you want them to traverse through the DNN File Manager.

Yeah, did that already too. There's nothing in the DNN error log, events, or in the Windows Event Log.
I did the security check again on the folders...looks good to me.

My development instance on ASP.NET Development Server (aka Casini) does not have the issue! There's nothing added to configdefault.xml for ViewPaths. Even the slider works.
Hmm now where to start.... think i'll start comparing the loaded javascript files.

Suggestions still very welcome!

That's weird Geert. If all the files and database are the same between your dev and production server, the only thing I can think of is maybe NTFS permissions are causing some problem. I believe I had to do Ctrl-F5 refreshes after making changes to the config or permissions for things to take effect for RadEditor. So keep that in mind in case you are not already doing it. One last thing you could try is to use the RadEditor provider on CodePlex. http://radeditor.codeplex.com/ For me, neither worked until I logged in as a non-superuser/host account, and then both worked. But it seems you are having a different issue, so maybe the different provider will make the difference. It installs just like a module, and has pretty decent documentation on codeplex.

I ran into a similar issue with only one portal. After trying all of the above fixes I tried to install the dnnWerk provider with the same result. Here is what I ended up doing:

1. Backup the portal files and directories
2. Clear all files and directories from the portal
3. Run File Manager Synchonization with recursion to clear all of the entries in the database.
4. Restore the portal
5. Run File Manager Synchonization with recursion again to put the files back in the database

I tried clearing the database manually with a script but it didn't work, only this method seemed to clear up whatever was messed up in the background.
