Wow Stefan, why be so disrespectful? Why even bother posting a solution? Was it to make it known how superior you are? I've noticed a huge wave of complete arrogance in these forums and have to say it's absolutely pathetic. Your mother should be so proud.

Guy, please be aware, that the projects are run by volunteers who spend their time for free, just to provide great solutions to the community. Stefan is for sure not arrogant, but has his stressing day job (as head of an IT department) and takes quite an amount of his spare time - I would expect a bit more appreciation of this effort. Besides, be always aware that it is not always easy for us non-native English speakers, to express in the right tone (IMHO it would be arrogant of Native speakers not to respect it).

Hello guys,

First of all, sorry for my English that could be better and, as Sebastian saied, it's not always so easy to find right words when you're a non-native English speakers....

By the way, I would like to confirm (to Gary and to Stefan) that my posts were not agressives at all and they were just aimed to get help.

I deeply regret that Stephan consider my question as a "way to make my homework by others"... that is completely False ,
By the way, I found his answer usefull even if, as Makman24, I felt it a few arrogant.

Therefore, I undestand that DNN  projets and forum are based on volonteers and I would like to thanks everybody for that good jobs.

So please, stop thoses unproductives comments and let's grow DNN Spirit..

again, many thanks for all

Best regards

Nicolas

Dear Nicolas,

I apologize for being rude and arrogant to you, and I don't want to simply excuse myself being a non-native English speaker.

I should have avoided the last sentence at all, or I should have more elaborated on the thoughts behind.

You asked for a special regular expression. Now you must know that nobody loves regular expressions. That language is awful. If there did not exist tools like Expresso, I would not be able to answer this question.

Therefore the best answer would have been simply a link to that tool (or any other, there are plenty of them), and not the answer itself.

Sometimes I am just too curious on this kind of challenges. I fired up Expresso, and it took me few minutes to work out the expression. IMHO it would be arrogant not sharing the result with you.

I noticed over the last months that more and more users rather come here for help but with special individual demands. There are fewer questions about how things are working and how to solve a problem though more tasks like “I need this kind of template, please write it for me”.

The reg exp request is similar, and “Still no answers for 2 weeks” indicated to me that there is a strong expectation to get this solved here inside the forums. It also looks to me that no attempt had been made in two weeks to solve it on your own; otherwise the “bump” post would have contained non-working expressions like \d\d.

This all doesn’t justify getting rude and I certainly did not mean you personally.

I am aware that most requests are not meant to be aggressive and are written in good faith. Nevertheless they often make me feel treated like an idiot who does the work of others for free.

Being part of an Open Source project means to me that I can act self-determined on features I am interested in and which provide me fun to work on. If my work turns into a successful project used by a number of people, I know that I did not waste my spare (and rare) time. It makes me also aware that people will rely on the tool and its functionality and it is the responsibility of the team to keep the project running.

Currently I am the only developer in team.  New enhancement requests must match my requirements, or at least they should not violate them. Otherwise it might take longer (or it will never happen) that they get in. Nevertheless I would appreciate if new members stepped in and volunteer, even if it was only a short term engagement for a single feature. Indeed this is quite unusual.

I also love to share my knowledge here in forum. Users report their issues, ideas and requests. Their posts have great influence and inspiration on my work. However the tone has changed over the years, it became more arrogating/ demanding. I guess that after 2k of posts in this forum I am getting tired and dissatisfied.

I’ll need to take care that my mood has no influence on future answers though.

Thank you,
best regards

Stefan

Stefan,

It is very nice to know that you have thought about this and responded in an extremely professional way without to much weight on giving excuses. It's not the mistakes we make that define us, but how we deal with those mistakes. I respect you a lot for setting pride aside and apologizing the way you did.

This whole issue aside, after learning of your time constraints, I would like to get involved in helping with this project. I too have limited time, but see benefit in helping with some UI issues that could be improved. I have over 10 years of various areas of development experience and about 2 years working with .Net. If you don't mind, send me some information on how you would like me to submit code changes to you. I would like to work on making the forms side more 508 compliant. Currently the module cannot be used at all by those who need to adhere to accessibility standards. I would like to try and help change that.

makman24,

Thank you for interest in helping. 508 compliance is certainly important, and it is an open issue (http://dnnfnl.codeplex.com/workitem/1...) for a very long time. I tried on my own multiple times and failed for several reasons.

Please send me an email to stefan.cullmann@gmail.com for further communication

Kind regards,
Stefan
