Hi
i am new to DNN. I installed Dotnetnuke using Auto Option.
Now i want to backup my Database of dotnetnuke but i cant find the database in Sql server.
I also checked sql connectionstring in web.config file and open server in Sql according to it but there i also cant see the database of my DNN site using.

So where is the database of DNN site? How can i see and backup the database so after that i can move my DNN Site from Dev. Server to Prod. Server.

Thanks in advance.

database should be database.mdf located inside /app_data folder of your DNN installation. Be careful when opening it using Management Studio, attaching the database will stop access from the web site.

Hi Leupold,
Right i got it. But i opened the database before u replied and yes after open db in studio, My Dnn website stop working and was giving SQL related error.
But i solved that error by replacing the backup copy of that database.

Can you tell me why it is happen?  what happen with database user roles after open it in SQL Studio?

Thanks in advance

Chintan Dave.

This generally occurs because of issues with SQL Express and the number of connections allowed, at least AFAIK.

This is why I always try to push people towards a full version of SQL server, it always seems to work better than Express when you try to do anything except simply run DNN.

Chris, there is no difference in SQL Server Express and commercial versions for small and medium sized web sites, but it depends how you access the database in your connection string. File based access (using "database.mdf" inside) is easy to upload and getting to run, as long as you don't need to access the database using any tool on the server itself.
