Hello! Long time listener, first time caller.  We have a production install of DNN 4.09.01 running on a W2003 server.  I need to do some custom development on it, so I am trying to pull a copy down to my local XP machine.  I have created my Virtual Directory in my local IIS, copied all the prod code to the location referenced by my Virtual Directory, ensured default.aspx is a default doc, have anonymous access and integrated windows integration turned on in IIS security, and all that good stuff.  I didn't touch the web.config -> I'm letting it hit the same database (for now) that prod is using.  I logged into my prod site and added localhost/[MyVirtualDirectoryName] as a portal alias, and I have confirmed the new record is in the PortalAlias table referencing PortalID of 0, and that looks good...

So what's happening is when I hit the local site, I see my header and footer and theme but the main "content" in the middle of the home page (all pages, actually) is absent, like it can't find a tab or the module or something.  I can see my Login link, and when I click on it, my debugger's hitting an error in Login.ascx.vb: "The file '/[MyVirtualDirectory]/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/DNN/Login.ascx' does not exist", which seems accurate if that's what it's looking for without "localhost" at the front of that url string.

User permissions issue of some kind?  Did I miss something?  An issue with my old alias being just www.[domain].com and my new one having a / as in localhost/[myvirtualdirectory]?  Appreciate any help in advance.

Thanks!
~John

I assume, there are filesystem permissions missing for ASPNET user, because [MyVirtualDirectory]/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/DNN/Login.ascx means relative path on local server.Anyways, for your kind of tasks, I suggest using free XP Pro IIS admin from www.jetstat.com/iisadmin, which allows you running the site locally in a dedicated web site instead of a vdir.

Turns out I accidentally deleted the DesktopModules directory when doing some cleanup after copying over. Oops. So this was pure user error, and is resolved now. By the way Sebastian, thanks for the tip on that XP IIS Admin app. I tried him and he's a useful little guy. I'm not quite sure why MS didn't just allow XP to have more than one website out of the box, but whatever...
