there was a fix for something similar made a little while back (around 5.2.0 AFAIR) - scheduled events that ran for long times were not being picked up correctly (i think the wrong timing value was evaluated) so duplicate events could run. I recommend testing an upgrade to see if that resolves.

I finally found it: http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=10467&PROJID=2 I was hoping I could fix this one bug without upgrading, since I'm a little too busy right now to go thru all of the steps necessary to test an upgrade, but I'm going to have to put it on the shelf for now. It's causing our backups to fail (Evotiva's DNN Backup, a great add-on!), unfortunately, but we can run them manually until I have time to do an upgrade properly.
