Hi,

I certainly intend looking at IWeb alright but I'm still a bit (ok a lot) confused. I dont know what can be thought of as the traditional web service format - does asmx, soap, wsdl, uddi etc. still apply? (REST sounds a bit too new). I'm really only seeking to expose a few methods normally found in the DataProvider class as a web service. I've seen reference to people mentioning doing that (althought not how!) as far back as DNN3.0 (I think). In rather simplistic terms I thought exposing a method as a web service involved marking them as WebMethod etc. My module doen't have to consume the actual web service.

Yep. Anyway WCF (SOAP or REST) should be the current way to go, I think.
Steve's blog posts looks like a good starting point for your needs.
