see http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archiv...

very interesting ... also if you read the comments ... he hints at some other "announcements" coming in the very near future that may prove interest.

Also of interest... IIS Express is based on IIS 7.x !  - will run on XP !! -- but will not support Sharepoint !!?.

Beta's will ship soon

Interesting stuff!

This is GREAT for people that are running on XP, and even some on Vista as well

Agreed Mitchel. I for one still think XP is still the best desktop OS. So deploying to IIS 7.5 is sometimes a roll of the dice.

Yeah, but with dealing with people having install issues with IIS 7.5 I can only imagine that this is going to cause even greater confusion with people new to asp.net that want to setup and install an application to run a website. It'll be interesting to see how easy this ends up being to use.

I once thought the same thing Chris. IIS 6 was/is rock solid and very, very secure as far as web servers go. Then we started to move to Win2008 R2 64bit. Let me tell you, this is the easiest, fastest web server to deploy on...securely and quickly. I blogged about deploying DNN on 7.5 using 2 different methods, the one I didn't include on the blog is the easiest yet, the Windows Platform Installer.
