Hello,

We have a site that we have been attempting to update in our development environment that is currently using the 5.1.2 version of DNN and we would like to upgrade it to 5.4.4.  The site we are attempting to update resides on a clustered server environment in production.  The portals directory within this website (on both servers) is pointed through a virtual directory to a separate file share server, which stores all content files for both sites. The database resides on a SQL 2005 server.

The following are the 3rd party modules we have installed and are in use currently on the site:
  • Adequation's Localization Extensions (v 1.26)
  • iFinity's URL Master (1.14.11)
  • Ultra Video Gallery 3
  • Ultra Media Gallery 5
  • OnyakTech Novus News
  • iWebs Feedback Designer
  • dRSSRotator
  • DigArticle

We believe that the issue is not caused by any of the above modules, but wanted to list them out anyway in case someone has run into an issue with any of the modules above when upgrading to DNN 5.4.4.

When we run the upgrade of DNN to 5.4.4 the site appears to look okay when we first load it up after the upgrade process completes.  However, on any link that contains a link to a file (mainly pdfs), the link is returned as a 404 error.  The reason the 404 error is being returned is because the link is looking for the LinkClick.aspx file within our DNN site.  This file does not exist within the file structure and is created through the web.config.  This issue occurs in HTML, Announcements, and Links modules.

After upgrading the site, we thought maybe that because we didn't have the latest versions of iFinity URL Master (2.0) and Localization Extensions (1.37) installed, that by installing the new versions would fix the issue.  These updates did not resolve the issue.  We checked to ensure all files were in the correct location in the portals directory and they were.

We do not want to proceed with updating the production site until we can figure out why the upgrade to DNN 5.4.4 is not allowing any links to open that use "LinkClick.aspx".

We have been searching for this issue on the DotNetNuke Forums as well as other DNN related sites and cannot find anyone with a similar issue.

Would we need to upgrade to a different version of DNN before 5.4.4, like to 5.2 or 5.3 first, then move the site to 5.4.4?

We appreciate all help for this issue.

Thank You,

Matt

Matt, how did you perform the upgrade? make sure, not overwriting web.config file or touching it manually- Linkclick.aspx is an http handler, which needs to be registered in web.config, please check.

Hello Sebastian,

Before performing the upgrade we took the site offline with an app_offline.htm file and updated the web.config AutoUpgrade value to false first, then we applied the upgrade files without the web.config, DotNetNuke.ico, and portals directory.  We had to modify the file download.vb in the App_Code\XML\Handlers directory before running the upgrade process, otherwise when navigating to install/install.aspx we would receive an error message before running the install.  This was done before copying the upgrade files into the site directory.

We made no modifications to the web.config after adding the upgrade files to the DNN site.  Once we had the files in place, we took down the app_offline.htm file and when directed to the site, the site navigates to the underconstruction.htm page (which we modified to look like the app_offline file).  From there we ran the installation process from install/install.aspx.

After we ran the upgrade we reviewed the http handlers section in the web.config to determine if anything changed for the LinkClick.aspx section and nothing did.  We do notice in the <dotnetnuke> section of the web.config there is a section <friendlyURL> which contains an attribute for the iFinity URL Master module with regex settings that includes LinkClick.aspx.  I'm not sure if that has some effect on LinkClick.aspx links but I thought maybe it could help.

Hi,

I'm having related problems with the media module not displaying images - I've tried a clean local instal and still have the problem saying linkclicks.aspx is not found.

Matt;
Please log this as a bug in Gemini: http://support.dotnetnuke.com
Along with the great info in your first post please mention whether the site is using FCKEditor or Telerik Editor and the version # installed in the site.
Other helpful info would be how many portals, does this only occur with .pdf files or other file types?
Please set the "Version Reported In:" field to 5.4.4 at the bottom of the form.

We did work on linkclick in 5.4.4 but we don't currently have all the 3rd party modules you are running to test against.

Thanks,
