The \bin folder will be in the root folder of your site installation. It is not accessible through the File Manager - but only through FTP access to the site.

As Host-->Module Definitions is giving an error and Host-->Extensions does not exist, it appears that the upgrade caused other issues as well. I hope you made a backup of the file system and of the database prior to performing the site upgrade because I recommend that you restore the the backups, correct any issues that caused errors during the upgrade, and then re-attempt the upgrade.

BTW, from what version and to what version of DotNetNuke did you upgrade. Did you notice any errors in the install/upgrade report when running the upgrade?

Oh yeah, lots of living and learning here.  Can tell you I am NOT feeling the love for DotNetNuke at the moment.

We were on DNN 4.7.0.0 and upgraded to 5.02.01 (54).

The version of DNN Stuff aggregator we were on was 4.05.00 - am trying to update that but can't get into the Module Defs to do it.

The only info about problems that we got from our host was this:

Ticket Number: 18208

Category: Interface Problem

Description:

Hi - Regarding our earlier support ticket (ID 18062), we are requesting that our entire dotnetnuke site be upgraded. Thanks.

Solution:

Hi Carolyn, It is done... But per warning in the previous ticket one of the modules does not seems to be compatible with the latest version of dotnetnuke. I would suggest contacting module provider for a resolution -- they should have version compatible with the latest one available. Thank you

Let me summerize your posts to see if I understand the issue.

  1. You were previously running DNN 4.7.0 on shared hosting.
  2. Your hosting provider did the upgrade to the "latest version" - DNN 5.2.1 for you. (NOTE: DNN 5.4.4 is actually the latest version. As I recall 5.2.1 had numerous isses, one of which was disappearance of items from the Admin and Host menus.)
  3. You indicated in your first post in this thread the following the upgrade "the whole site is down". When I checked the site now, it appears that the public facing pages are working well except for the error on the Home Page. Is that the DNN Stuff Aggregator module?
  4.  You are able to log in and access some items of the Admin and Host menus without error.

Now for some questions:

  1. Have you asked your hosting provider if they took backups of the site files and database prior to the upgrade and if so is it possible to restore the site to its pre-upgrade state? I would also ask them about the possibility of upgrading to DNN 5.4.4.
  2. Have you asked your hosting provider if they kept any record of the Install/Upgrade report which might have displayed errors during the upgrade?
  3. When you log in as host do you do so with the "host" account or with an account with more limited permissions?
  4. When logged in as host, have you examined entries in Admin-->Event Viewer to look for any errors being logged at the time of the upgrade or since the upgrade. In particular for more details about the error that is being shown on the Home Page?
  5. Do you have FTP (not just File Manager)  access to the site files?
  6. Do you have access to the database tables and other objects using MS SQL Server Management Studio or with some other tool - perhaps one that is web-based and accessed from your hosting control panel?
