I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but I am having difficulty expressing to my users the format of the time field type.  I have tried creating a custom validation expression and message.  However it seems that the time field type has an internal expression that overrides the custom one.  So instead of getting my custom validation message all they get is a time format invalid message with no explanation as to what was wrong with the format.  I would like to see this fixed in one of the following two ways.

1.  Be more clear with the default validation message.  Explain why the users entry was formatted incorrectly.
2.  Allow the custom validation expression to override the default.

I am a bit new to DotNetNuke, so there is a chance I'm just missing something.  Please advise.

I am assuming that you're trying to do this in a custom module.  There are many ways to make this happen.  One of the most usable ways is to use an input mask to the field, and supply a friendlier error message describing the format in your validation controls.

Since DNN now has jQuery natively, an input mask like this is a great idea:  http://digitalbush.com/projects/maske...

Will, this forum is about Form and List module (FnL) which has regex based field validation included.

Crap!  I was fast tracking through all kind of posts and I obviously missed the context on this one.  Sorry.

There are some great examples of using RegEx to validate times here:  http://regexlib.com/DisplayPatterns.a...

Hey Will thanks for the replies.  My problem isn't finding a regex to do validations of time, it's getting the module to use it.  I have tested this pretty well, and it seems no matter what I do It just reports invalid time format errors when the field type is time.  Now if I change the type to a text field type then my validation expression works.  I just don't like the leght of the text field type.  It realy seems to me that if you select the field type time, then it should tell you why your time format is wrong.  I think what is getting my users is that they need to put in the AM PM.
