Our health care organization would like to host some of our sites with a third party hosting service and would like to develop in DNN.  Does a host have to just offer a certain level of data security to be considered HIPAA compliant, or is there some official certification a host must meet?  Does anyone know of a DNN host that is considered HIPAA compliant, or for that matter, does DNN as a development platform qualify as HIPAA compliant?

Thanks!

FYI heres a list of steps for HIPAA under asp.net - http://ksrinivas81.blogspot.com/2009/08/hipaa-securing-aspnet-website.html .By default DotNetNuke implements 1,2,3, 4,6 . Steps 5,7, 8 and 9 are not related to DotNetNuke (i.e. you must install an SSL cert ,configure sql server approriately and encrypt the web.config). Based on this list it looks possible to make a site HIPAA compliant.

Are planning on posting patient's names, conditions, or medical history? If so then you do fall under HIPPA, if not I don't believe you would be required to comply. Check with your companies HIPAA Compliance department. They are going to want to see it anyway.
