Hey Ken, that worked! Going from 4.9.5 to 5.2.3 to 5.5.0 got the site upgraded successfully. I don't know what that little hiccup error was with the XML module, but I am not using it anyway. Should I just uninstall it?

Thanks for your help.

You should be OK to remove the module if you are not using it on a page/tab within the site. Please post back success or no success using the site after you remvoe the XML module.

Hi Ken,

I was able to remove the XML module, and its files, successfully. Everything seems to work okay except the Minimal Extropy skin is the old one and the host dashboard gives an error. I will try getting the skin from the 5.5.0 install package, but I can't find the file the following error is referring to, even when I look for it in the 5.5.0 install package. There is no 'Dashboard' sub-directory, either. How can I get the Dashboard to work?

Error: Dashboard is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: The file '/Admin/Dashboard/Dashboard.ascx' does not exist. ---> System.Web.HttpException: The file '/Admin/Dashboard/Dashboard.ascx' does not exist. at System.Web.UI.Util.CheckVirtualFileExists(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResult(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.ControlUtilities.LoadControl[T](TemplateControl containerControl, String ControlSrc) at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.LoadModuleControl() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

The skin issue is "by design" you have to manually install the "system" skin, Minimal Extropy, to get the 5.x.x version coming up from pre-5.x sites.
As for the Dashboard error we've seen this before there is a fix if you wish to try the steps in the first comment of this Gemini issue:

Thanks, Ken.

I got the dashboard to work, but I think it is a little more than the link to the support site suggests. There are actually 3 places (rows) in the table that you need to change, because there is no longer (in 5.x) a Dashboard directory in the /Admin folder. Everything that was there got moved to the DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard folder.

So, I am hereby ammending the instructions for getting your dashboard to work after upgrading from pre-5.x to 5.x as the following:

The workaround is as follows.

1.     Find the row in the ModuleControls table for the DashboardControls module ControlKey (mine was ModuleDefID value of 100)

2.     Update the ControlSrc from "Admin/Dashboard/DashboardControls.ascx"  to "DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/DashboardControls.ascx"

3.     Update any other Admin/Dashboard/... to DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/... for the same ModuleDefID value (mine was 100)

Hope that will help any others trying to get this to work.
