I thought all I had to do to upgrade from DNN 5.2 to 5.5 is to extract the 5.5 zip folder into the same folder that held 5.2.  After doing that my web site came up, I logged in but the Admin Setting still says 5.2.  I'm running on a Windows 2008 server, etc.  What did I not do or did wrong?  I looked around DotNetNuke's site for upgrade instructions but found none.
Thanks,
Kirk

Hi ,

I am not sure whether  the upgradation process is done or not...i guess it is not ..
Once  you done  extracting  DNN 5.5  on existing DNN 5.2 folder....just open teh browser and type in the your website address...

http://yourwebsitename.com/Install/In...

this will trigger the upgradation process and you will see the script status as well..
Once done you can browse your wite using  the link provided after the  upgradation done successfully.

Actually i had not chance to try out DNN on Windows 2008 Server .....but above process worked on windows 2003

Hope this will help

Thanks
Vijay

If you use the upgrade package yes.  If you want to use the install package (what is not needed) it included a new web.config file, and you have to backup your old web.config file, and modified the new with the 2 SQL server strings, the Maschine Key and the databaseOwner and objectQualifier.

Hi Matthias,

Thanks for sharing the info....I once i tried upgrading with the new web.cofig   i change the Sql connectionstring but   missed ObjectQualifier... and all i got is duplicate tables.  One with  existing dbo.dnn_TableName and  other  dbo.TableName.  I had to restore the DB and did the upgrade with upgrade package with no new  web config and it worked like charm.....Thanks for making the upgrade package so smooth..I really had a good upgrade experience which i had never before for earlier versions...

Thanks
vijay

Did you use the install.zip or the upgrade.zip?

If you use the correct package, upgrade, when you hit the site you'll see an upgrade UI written out as the site is upgraded. At the bottom left you will see the hyperlinked text "Go to Your Portal"
