I'm still new to DNN and here's my problem: I tried to follow the directions on the sticky at the top of this forum to move my installation from my home PC to GoDaddy.
When I got to the database part I backed up the online database and tried to replace it with the backup of my home database. GoDaddy gave me an error saying that they don't allow the restoring of any .bak file that wasn't created on their servers.
Does anyone have a suggestion that doesn't include using Red-Gate software? I just can't afford that.

Thank you

I didn't realize they have a free trial.

I ended up spending the weekend so far recreating the website on GoDaddy's servers. It's much faster the second time around.

Most probably that was the only way to do it. I tried to upload my DB but no luck. Probably the backup files that are done by them are somehow signed or they keep the file's hash key to check was the file tampered somehow.

As I have a client who is looking for help in migrating an existing DNN site from another hosting provider to GoDaddy, I have been investigating the steps and potential difficulties in moving a site to their servers. I did find mention in GoDaddy FAQs and knowledge base that they do NOT permit restoration of a database backup that was not originally created on GoDaddy's SQL servers. However, they do permit and in fact encourage use of the Microsoft Database Publishing Wizard (DPW) to connect to the Microsoft Database Publishing Service (DPS) which they are running. While the DPW is still available from Microsoft to download and install as a windows application, it was written for MS SQL Server 2000 and may have some difficulties connecting to a SQL Server 2005 or 2008 database. It is really not needed, however, as MS SQL Server Management Studio 2008 (standard or free express) now includes built in DPW capabilities and is supposed to work with SQL Server 2000 and 2005 as well as 2008.

I havn't had a chance to try DPW/DPS yet but will let you know how migration of DB to GoDaddy works. Meanwhile, here are a couple of references to migration of database an existing site to GoDaddy:
