Hi,
I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to set up my development environment. I am using Windows 7, SQLServer 2008 express, vstudio 2008 express. I have the latest version of dnn(as of 8/31/2010) set up and running fine; it's installed to c:\dotnetnuke and I access it like this: http://localhost/dotnetnuke.   I want to be able to create websites for different, unrelated clients.  Should I just use this one installation and create a new parent portal for each new client? Or should I create many installs of Dotnetnuke, such as c:\client1,  c:\client2, etc.?  I don't care on my localhost how I access the sites, but when it comes time to port them to a production server, I don't want it to be messy. They will be on different servers and have different databases.

thanks!
Candice

There are arguments for keeping all sites in one instance, and keeping all sites separate. Typically I try to keep different clients separate because if in the future one of them wants an upgrade I can upgrade them individually. If you have them all in one instance, if you upgrade one, you will upgrade them all, unless you work to separate out that client from the main instance.

Though keep in mind, it's easier to take one instance and separate out a client into their own instance, than it is to take multiple instances and try to put them all into one in the future.
