I have so far not upgraded several DNN installs to 5.x, since I have run into problems on every attempt.  Now i am trying again. and have multiple issues/questions.

1. Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the files in the app_browsers folder?
I created a working local install of my hosted DNN sites (4 DNN 4.9.5 installs on two different hosting companies) and none of them will run with the default files in the app_browsers folder.  I resolved this be appending my initials to ".jjb" the end of the file name, and the local installs seems to work OK, but I don't know what the consequences may be after the upgrades are effected and the live sites are re-published .  I also don't understand why the live site works OK when these files have their original names and the local installs all choke.

2. When errors are generated during an upgrade, Where are the error details recorded?

I see (found by searching - couldn't find any documentation) that each SQLDataProvider File in  \Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider contains the details to alter the data Schema, and generates an empty log file if no errors occur and a log file with text in it if an error does occur when changing the schema.

I could not find any such log file when an upgrade generates an application error.  I am assuming that these errors may be written only  to the EventLog table.  (Which I can't, at the moment, confirm - explained in #3)

3. Has anyone written or have an application for reading the EventLog file outside of the DNN install?
After an upgrade from 4.9.5 to 5.X - I cannot access the login or register tabs in my local install - clicking on the login install or accessing the tab directly via the TabID generates an error (which IS written to EventLog).

Without an application to read each record in EventLog, I can only cut/paste the records individually into a text editor.  It gets a bit tedious to do one at a time, so I though I'd ask before spending the time to write one.  I can't be the first person who has encountered this.

Thanks for any responses
