Gallery 04.03.00 and 04.03.01 RC are known to have a compatibility issue with DotNetNuke 05.05.00 and will throw a duplicate key error when first loading or when adding an album. I am working on a 04.03.02 Beta which will fix that issue and several others.

What other modules have you tried installing?

Are you running under ASP.Net 4.0?

What are the details of the error messages you are seeing either during the install of a module or that you find in the Admin-->Event Viewer following an failed install of a module? Please post the details including the stack trace portion of the error here.

The 1st time I crashed while loading modules I had forgotten to include the Events module in the main installation from GoDaddy. After downloading the latest install from the DNN site I went to the Host-Module Definitions - install module. Everything looked good up until the last step where it was actually doing the install. It appeared to get about 1/2  way through and then I get the screen with the error I've shown in the previous post and the web site no longer works. Other than paying $150 to GoDaddy and waiting 7-10 business days for a restore, the only way to fix this is to un-install the DNN app and re-install, then rebuild the content. So far the modules that have caused this issue have been the Events, the Chat, and the Gallery modules.

GoDaddy shows the ASP version as ASP.Net 2.0/3.0/3.5 and doesn't show 4

The version of Gallery that I've been loading seems to be 4.03.00 - Unfortunately I can't get to the event viewer at present since the site is down until I rebuild it or find some way of getting it back. When I do get it back if I can replicate the issue without crashing the site I will post the stack trace and error messages.

Have you tried changing <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" /> to <customErrors mode="Off" /> in the site's web.config file then revisiting the site in your browser to obtain more detailed regarding the application error you are receiving?

Of the three modules you mentioned . . .

Gallery 04.03.00 will only take down the entire site when running under ASP.Net 4.0. Gallery 04.03.01 RC corrects that error. In DNN 5.05.00, Gallery 04.03.00 and 04.03.01 RC will not work correctly and will cause a module load error on the page containing the gallery. Do not attempt to re-install Gallery 04.03.00 or Gallery 04.03.01 RC. Wait until I can finish work on Gallery 04.03.02 Beta - hopefully in the first part of this week.

Versions of Events prior to 05.01.04 should only cause a module load error on the page where it has been added, not a site wide unhandled application error.

Chat will, however, take down the entire site with an unhandled application error which I suspect you'll find after making the above change to web.config. If Chat is causing the error, you may delete all files in the DesktopModules/Chat folder to get the site back running again then uninstall the Chat module using the uninstall icon button beside its entry on the Host-->Extensions page.

I’d love to make the change to the web.config file except I don’t have access to it through GoDaddy and they don't seem willing to do anything to it for me.

I was able to get the site going again in any case without having to rebuild. I also was able to access the event log and I sent a reply to admin1@dotnetnuke.com (DotNetNuke Forum) with the last 4 exception stack traces as a pdf attachment. Not sure if attachments make it through though.

Looking back on the log for the last few days there are an awful lot of red lines, certainly a whole lot more red ones than any other color.

If you have FTP access or GoDaddy control panel file manager access to your site files, then you should be able to download the web.config file, make the change, then upload it again. As you are able to now access the Event Viewer, you will not need to modify the web.config at this time.

Please paste the text of the four errors from the Event Viewer in this same forum thread as sending them to the admin1@dotnetnuke.com email address will not result in our being able to see them. That address would be for issues with this site's administration, etc.

For the benefit of other's with similar issues, how were you able to get the site going again?

To be quite honest ... I have no idea what it was that I did, or even if it was me that did it. I was trying a bunch of different things and all of a sudden the site was back.  It came back for about an hour then gave me a message saying my site was unavailable (no error this time, just UnAvailable) then about an hour and a half later it came back again, so it could have been GoDaddy putzing. That being said the Event viewer is still loaded with red lines. the following account for quite a few of them. I haven't tried uploading any modules in the last couple of days though as I'm a little apprehensive about crashing the site for my client again.
