You can continue to do your skinning as you always have, manually copying files around, but if you want to remove it completely you need to uninstall the extension

I had a problem on my in instance, DNN 5.5 still sync DB if i delete a skin folder or add a new .ascx !! sorry...

There are 2 aspects: 1. db sync is used to sync skin files to show up in (Admin or Host menu) File Manager 2. Package data is created on upload to maintain installation data. You may use "uninstall extension" in Host extensions, to remove package registration.

I don't know why, but i cannot uninstall some skins also if they does'nt in use !
On Admin\Extension -> Skin list , there's no link (X) to delete it

I cannot upload file here otherwise i can show you my screenshot..
