Ok, I am a nub with this and sorry to all you guru types for insulting you with a stupid question...

 

Now that that is out of the way, I am playing with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express and downloaded  the lasted framework for duke and installed per the instructions. I can build the site and use the web interface to maek changes.

 

The problem is that I am unable to load the default.aspx page in design view. I get the following error:

error creating control - form

unable to cast object of type 'system.web.UI.design.htmlintrunsiccontroldesigner' to type 'system.web.ui.design.controldesigner'.

As best as I can understand the error is with the dnn: form  and the asp: placeholder tags. VWD does not recognize these. due to this VWD invalidates the <%= Title %> and states it shoud be declared 'shadows'.

The program also takes issue witht he usage of  marginwidth= and marginheight= as not valid in a body tag.

I have looked online and been unable to find any solution. I did find on asp.net and no reply.

Can anyone walk me through this resolution.

First and foremost, have you checked the issue tracker? Second, why are you trying to open the default page in the designer? You shouldn't need to modify this page for 95% of the changes you could make in DNN. I'm not really sure why you can't see the designer - I've never seen that error before. I do know, however, that the designer sometimes has problems loading pages/controls that access objects not instantiated at design-time. For instance, anything accessing the HTTP context should be checked first to ensure no design-time errors occur.
