I've tried to be a good boy and I have Googled the following --> site:dotnetnuke.com view default folder godaddy

... but no joy so far, after viewing many threads.  I am sure this has been asked before and I apologize in advance.

My n00b site is hosted on GoDaddy and I am trying to access the _default folder .  I used GoDaddy's Install function to set up my directory for their auto-install of DNN v4.0.2

I had heard there is a workaround for this, but can't find the workaround.  I'm trying to add skins vis-a-vis the superb excellent animated Skins tutorial by Nina Meier.  I need to get to that _default folder.

When I ftp to my site, I see only the following folder:  stats (GoDaddy put that there)

Thank you very much in advance.

Unfortunately there is no real work around, you must install your own DNN to get access to the folders that you want access to when hosting on Godaddy as they do not provide access to the virtual directory that is created when using their install.

darkon1365:

Thanks very much for your reply to my message, which I wrote yesterday.  I did find a workaround, though.  Not of my genius but of someone else's of course.

You actually can use GoDaddy to do the install (4.0.2) for you, and then use WebExpress Lite to access (and alter, upload, change, move, etc) all of the DotNetNuke installation files in the virtual directory used by GoDaddy for their auto installation.

Again, I am using their install, and am not using an install I did manually.  I tried that but could never get it to work, so this workaround was a blessing.  I've been able to have full access to the virtual directory root and all subdirectories, tie my database to everything by editing .config files in that virtual directory root, etc.

To see a few screen caps of WebExpress Lite in action, click below (hyperlinks), and you can also view my website to see how design is coming along (slowly).  Thanks again for replying.
