Just starting to look at the private messages feature of DNN 5.1.1.
Without any configuration from me, the Profile/Private Messages page shows the view & edit radio buttons at the top of my page.

I'm sure this is a simple permissions issue on the private messages module, but as the permaissions currently are 'OOTB' I'm not sure what the settings should be.

TIA

Hi.

Go to ADMIN - SITE SETTINGS and under ADVANCED you'll find a setting called CONTROL PANEL SECURITY. Switch it to PAGE EDITORS then only people with the right to change any page settings will see the Panel but not the "normal" users, even if they have the Edit-Right for a module what they must have e.g. for the private mail module.

Cheers

usually, users should not need to get "edit module" permission to use their private messaging module. You might consider submitting this request into the issue tracker at support.dotnetnuke.com

Sebastian, you're right. Users should not have to have this right but they need it if they want to read their mails or want to create a new one.
I opened an issue under DNN-14044
