Our proposal to go to DNN Connections was reviewed and a fellow colleague and I have been called to a meeting this afternoon to discuss this training opportunity.  We are definitely small fish in this ocean.  Neither of us has a lot of development experience but we have been using DNN for 5 years now. 
We have a few apps created with OWS and a some modified work flows for our purposes. 

So for the purposes of this meeting,  any advice from those of you that already got approval?  And are there any special deals left to help with costs?

Well here come a couple more small fish venturing out into the ocean.  Travel reservations and tickets are purchased and we are ready to go.
Only bummer was that since the company waited until the last minute we had to book our room at the Luxor, Mandalay was sold out, but hey beggars can't be choosers.
