Hi Folks

I want to localize and format a date that is currently coming in to a GridView via Template code like this:

<asp:TemplateField>
                        <HeaderTemplate>
                            <asp:Label
                                ID=lblDate
                                Text = '<%#Localization.GetString("Date", LocalResourceFile) %>'
                                cssclass="Normal"
                                runat="server" >
                            </asp:Label>
                        </HeaderTemplate>
                        <ItemTemplate>
                            <asp:Label ID="lblCreatedDate" runat="server" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.CreatedDate") %>' >
                            </asp:Label>
                        </ItemTemplate>

The header works fine. It is the item template that I seek help with. This currently renders something like this 10/28/2010 2:54:48 PM and I would like to see it as 28 Oct 2010 or 28 Oct 2010 2:54 PM (adjusted for language/culture).

I don't see it covered in the Localization pdf.  Can someone point me to the right place.

Kind regards

Geoffrey

Hi folks

There is nothing like asking a question to prompt you to find your own answer!

The solution, of course, was to format it at the DataBinder.Eval level, like this...

<asp:Label ID="lblCreatedDate" runat="server" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.CreatedDate","{0:dd MMM yyyy}") %>' >
                            </asp:Label>

Hope this helps someone else!

Kind regards

Geoffrey

For  localization its better to use :

{0:d} = shortdate
or
{0:D} = longdate

the date format is adapted to the user locale
