Hello Sergey,
Postgre is perhaps not the first joice for a windows box, but it is running quite good on a linux box, and if we talk about using Postgre in a Cloud there are already prebuilt linux ami-images. So if you separate the webserver-machine(Windows) from the db-machine(linux) this should run very well.

Here is a performance comparison between MS SQL Server and Postgre:
Only trust the numbers you are measuring yourself - I know
but Postgre seem to play catch up.
New in Postgre 9.0 is the 64-bit support for Windows-machines.

You get the biggest bang for the buck when bringing the complete stack to linux. NGINX + Mono + Postgre + DNN C# for mono prebundeld in an ami image. The so called LEnMoPoDo-Stack  L(Linux)En(NGINX is pronounced Engine X)Mo(Mono)Po(Postgre)Do(Dotnetnuke)-Stack.

I think this could be a sustainable platform - and a top to bottom open source stack.
Mojoportal is delivering mono binaries.

Best regards,
Thomas

Thomas

Thank you very much for this info! It is very interesting.

We did not use PostGree on Windows machine. It was on Ubuntu 9 server.

BTW: Think we are in the offtop. Subject is very different from the our messages.
