Hi!  I am very new to DDN and am trying to set up my website as a subscription based site. I understand how to set the permissions on pages and modules so that only subscribers can see the materials, however...I do have a few questions.

These are things that are available to me in my current site, for which I use a shopping cart and pay pal (though I manually set up the accounts, which I hope to change on this new site). I also use a company's scripting for protected pages on my site for the login.

Here is what I am hoping to find for my DNN site:

Login that will allow a cusotmer's email address but one that I can actually change (or the user can change) In the DNN module for users, the username cannot be changed and if I have entered an email address that is no longer valid, I would imagine that the account would need to be rebuilt. Is that right? So, I am looking for a login that will allow the username to be changed (email address is preferred to anything else)

Subscription mod that will allow me to fogo the shopping cart service I now use, but I would want to be able to NOT have recurring payments for my subscribers. In other words, he orders a one year subscription and when renewal comes up a notice is sent out to remind him but he must then go to a renewal page to place the order. No auto billings.

Would like to be able to remind customers of subscription expirations 20 days out, then 10 days out, then the day before expiration.

Any help on these questions is greatly appreciated.

Also........ On the pages that I have set to subscriber only...do the web crawlers ever index these? I need those pages to NOT show up on a webcrawl. AND...Sorry for all these questions!! How should I set up my private file folders (subscribers only can access from a link on a subscriber page). They are not allowed to browse or write to these. Would I set the permissions to allow view? These settings are a bit confusing for someone very new to DNN. I have read DNN for Dummies and have one other book but I am still a bit nervous about the permission settings. I want my subscribers to have full access to any links to my materials, but don't want these to be crawled by a webcrawler and indexed. So, please help a newbie! Thank you!  The main reason for this question...when I was logged in I copied the location (address bar) for a file on my protected pages. Then I logged out. I closed the browser, then went back in and pasted that address into the address bar. Wham, there was that file! If I erased the filename from the address bar, bumping it back to just the folder it was in it came up as access denied. I thought that if a file was protected that copying pasting the address for it would also bring up the access denied...you must login to view, etc.

Thank you for any help with this. Please remember I am a novice to DNN and may need a bit "more" of an explanation than someone that has been messing around with it for months and months. Thank you!

there is an advanced subscription module from www.ventrian.com, but there might be others by 3rd party vendors on snowcovered.com
