I am running DNN 05.05.01 (22) with blog module 4.0.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate and DotNet Framework 4.  I tried and tried to post to the blogs I had created, but nothing ever showed up on the view_blog module or in the database in dbo.Blog_Entries.  My entries would not get an error message when I told DNN to publish them. Just on the off chance that a category was required, I created a "General" category and posted an entry using that category.  It worked and the entry showed up in the database.  I tried another and did not select the category.  This entry also silently disappeared.

It seems that a category is required for each post or the post just disappears when you try to publish it.  Now that I know this I can avoid it, but it will be somewhat awkward when I turn this loose on our users.  I can just imagine ...

If there is a workaround to select a default category automatically or to give an error message if the category is not selected, please advise me.

Thanks,
Bill

You could modify the code to auto-select a category. It's a one line change, but then you have to keep track of any upgrades in the future.
