I am getting this connection error
i dropped the database and created it again and set the correct user mappings
inspite of this, i am getting the same message again and again
Also, the error message doesnot contain anything which makes things complicated as i am not able to figure out in which direction i should proceed
can someone help me out with this....

Thats the error we get back from SQL so we can't add any light to that.  However I'll guess you are using SQL Server not Express.  Make sure your db is not in Single User mode whuich can happen when you drop it.  Make sure your site's App Pool is actually running under the identity you think it is.  I find thats usually the issue.

did you make sure, you enabled TCP/IP protocol for SQL Server client and server?

I am still having the same problem
i am using sql server, not express
db is not in single user mode
apppool identity is set correctly
