I support a DNN web site currently running 4.9.5 in production; I'd like to move to the 5.x code base.  I've upgraded my local test site to DNN 5.5.1 (I think I'll wait for 5.6 to gel a little).  Everything looks pretty good except that my various Gallery instances (I have about 5) all display this error:

Error: Vance George, January 2010 is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. -
--> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at
DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Container.GetStats() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Container.Page_Load(Object sender,
EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I added line ends to make it more readable.  I'm running Gallery module version 4.3.0 which is the latest version.  It's working under DNN 4.9.5 but not under 5.5.1.  Can anyone explain what's wrong here?

Also, before I checked the Gallery version number and realized it was current, I wanted to see if there was a later version.  In DNN 4.X you could log in as Host and go to Host > Modules, and at the bottom there'd be a list of potential module upgrades.  It isn't there.  I did a search and found that it seems to have moved to the bottom of the Host > Extensions page where there should be a button called Install Available Extensions.  On my installation there's no such button.  Advice on that would be appreciated too - someday I may need to upgrade an extension!  I'm going to go read the change list for DNN 5.X but it's evidently a VERY big document, if someone could shortcut this answer for me I'd be very grateful.

Confused,
hedera

Gallery 4.03.00 is NOT compatible with ASP.Net 4.0 nor with DotNetNuke versions 5.05.00 and above. A Gallery 4.03.03 release candidate is available on the project's Codeplex download page http://dnngallery.codeplex.com/releas.... This is the same version which is currently undergoing testing through the DotNetNuke Release Tracker. Once it passes that testing it will be included in future DotNetNuke framework packages. The Gallery 4.03.00 install package had been pulled from DotNetNuke packages around the time of DNN 05.04.xx due to the ASP.Net 4.0 issue and is not among the other available extensions you may select to install.

Regarding the missing "Install Available Extensions" button near the bottom of the Host --> Extensions page, it's appearance depends on the skin in use. You should be able to find the same command available in the Entensions module's action menu.

Thanks very much for the clarification, that does explain the error message.  Since I won't want to take my site upgrade live with a beta Gallery, is there somewhere I can track its progress through the Release Tracker?  The Release Timeline doesn't seem to include modules, just the whole product.

I'll take a look on the action menu for the Install Available Extensions option.  The skin I'm currently playing with is MinimalExtropy, I would have thought that would display it since it's the default; but who knows?

Here's a link to the extensions release tracker so that you can keep track of Gallery 4.03.03's progress: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/E...

I have no idea how quickly it will move through the testing steps as all of the testing is done by Community Team volunteers who like all of us have many other responsibilities to take care of first.

I am surprised that the "Install Available Extensions" button does not appear at the both of the Host --> Extensions page when using the default Minimal Extropy skin and its standard containers as it includes the proper skin object for showing that command. I just tested some module installs in a 5.06.00 test install using the default skin and the button was available.

Bill, thanks for the link to the release tracker, I'll keep an eye on it.

FYI on the "Install available extensions" link:  I realized that I hadn't followed the latest upgrade instructions, I worked from an older set; I hadn't done the "unblock" on the upgrade ZIP file.  Having correctly redone the upgrade, MinimalExtropy now displays that link at the bottom of the Extensions page.  Thanks for the tip.
