Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum to ask this but I'll give it a shot. I've downloaded the source package for the Announcements module and installed it on an install version of DNN 5.6. I'd like to step through the code to get an idea of how the module works. However, I can't seem to get anywhere after hours of trying different things. I also can't seem to find a clear answer after spending a good amount of time searching online. Can someone please explain, or point me in the direction of a tutorial, on how to properly set up a source version of a module for modification and debugging?

Thanks.

simply install the source version and open the DNN web site (WSP modules) or VS solution in the desktopmodules/modulename folder.

I tried that but the project doesn't build so I can't generate the symbols file for the Announcements module - so I can't step through the code. Also, when I try and rebuild I get over 100 errors coming from the Announcements module. I checked the references and they seem to all be in place. I tried building the project independantly but no go there either. I know how to set up a dev environment and create a WAP for a new module, but I'm not getting anywhere following those steps with the existing Announcements source.

Thanks.

Yes. I opened the solution file and tried a build but 106 errors. Things like 'IHydratable is not defined', 'Entities.Users.UserInfo' is not defined' , DotNetNuke.UI.UserControls.UrlControl is not defined' and on and on.  I converted the solution when I opened it in VS 2010 but I wouldn
t think that would cause any of these issues - or would it?
