use "add existing module" in the control panel (without "copy content")

1. I created a new page.
2. Selected "Add Existing Module".
3. Selected the page from the dropdown that contains the incidence of F&L I want to reference.
4. Selected the module incidence.

But, I never see "without 'copy content'"

Should I be doing this some other way?

BTW - I thought this method of placing a module on a page always created a "reference" not a "copy". Meaning, anything I changed on this incidence would also change the original incidence.

As a follow-up, I read in the DNN documentation that if while attempting to "Add Exsiting Module" I select a module incidence that supports copying with content, then I should see "with content or without content" appended to the module selection in the icon bar, but I don't.

I checked some other DNN installations (some current, others older) and none of them offered this "with content or without content" options when attempting to add a F&L instance. Could this be caused by running on medium trust servers as all of these installations are hosted on shared, medium trust servers?

Thanks again.

Jim, if I remember correctly, this is only avaailble if you copy a page. Than you can select how to deal with the modules, you can creaty empty modules, copy content or set a reference.

According to the DNN documentation (Community Edition 5.4 Quick Administration Guide - page 156 in the pdf) it should be on the Add Module icon bar:

1. Maximize the Control Panel.
2. Select the Common Tasks tab and at Add Module select Existing.
3. At Page, select the page where the existing module is located.
4. At Module, select the module to be added. Note: Selecting the module here appends either 'with content' or 'without content'

Not sure why I can't see it though...

If you selected in Host Settings to use old Control Panel, there is only "copy existing module", which in fact creates a reference. So called "Ribbon Control Panel" has the copy with content option. I prefer free Control Panel from www.oliverhine.com (and I know from his Razor module video, Stefan uses it as well), which comes with "New", "Copy" and "Link" - which should be most obvious.
