Hi

I am struggling with bad performance of CE DNN ver. 05.04.02 now for a while. I did set all recommended caching settings but the situation is still critical.
Website was also moved from shared hosting to dedicated server and there was a difference at first but it is still problematic on days that there is more than 100 concurrent users on page as it becomes unresponsive.

It is Windows server 2008 -web edition with MS SQL 2008 R2.
4 GB of RAM  (2,3 is being consumed constantly no matter what is the traffic)

Proc: Athlon™ 64 X2 3400+ Dual-Core, 2x 1,8 GHz   -  Processor could be weak link as it reaches 100% top with constant spikes to 80 - 100 % also on normal days.

Mem: 4 GB DDR2-RAM/667MHz

Well this site is somehow specific. As it is radio station site.  Users come to site and listen radio streams here so basically they stay on site for 8 hours or more but they don't actively browse the page. So there could be 1500 users listening stream over live player site. There could be 100 concurrent users that browse on site and over 1500 connections at certain moment since most of user only have live player site open and listens music but don’t actually browse the site.

This setup seems somehow sufficient if Live player site is static and there is nothing going on, but now it was implemented ajax refreshing of some module which content refreshes every 2 minutes per visitor and the problems started with constant 100% CPU utilization by application pool.
Module is refreshing from some .aspx site that checks the DB every minute.

This is script that is in module head:
<script>
var refreshId = setInterval(function() {
jQuery('#ZdajPoslusate').load('http://www.problematic-site.com/PlayerRefresher.aspx?randval='+ Math.random());
}, 120000);
</script>

So my question:  is described hardware setup not enough for that kind of site or is problem in DNN or in ajax refresher (this is plain .aspx site that checks for new data from sql db every minute) ?
 How many concurrent users is DNN capable with described hardware environment?

Any one have any suggestions what to do to improve performance. (I already tried Snapsis PageBlaster but can not be used because on all pages is some module that needs to show fresh content - otherwise this module is great and great support also)

Thank you!

Hi There

I also was very critical ff DNN performance for very basic tasks. However the new release of 5.6 they corrected a problem which was causing a race condition in the DB. Also there was a modification to the URL rewritor which gave it a big increase in speed as well.  I know it's a pain upgrading especially, as it seems to be a very active site. However I strongly recommend the latest release it has a very noticable speed improvement. I also believe 5.61 will be here any day soon which I am running the BETA and it seems to be rock solid.

Cheers
Tim

Thanks for answer Tim 3 times :) .

But is there any recommendation for CE DNN ver. 05.04.02 on what hardware is needed for e.g.3000  connections and 200 concurrent users.

Best regards!
