Hi all,
i wish to ask to core member why the release periods are so long now. Since few month ago there was a release every month. Now it's not.
Another question is why the core member, on stabilization release like 561, introduce new features like razor script (???) of minor impact and for a little number of person, instead fix serious bug like ones present in RADEditor Provider in 5.60 ?

New features are for NEW release, and only bug fix is for stabilization release.

I have see on Gemini that since 15 days ago that the 561 release is "blocked" for Razor scrip support ! Who will use it if there are so many serious bugs ??

Sorry for my ugly English.

Thanks, Sandro

Hello,
it's been discussed a few times, including both conferences this year, but after community feedback, we've moved to 2 monthly release cycles. Many people found the monthly releases meant too much work, and the short period of time between releases meant that in some case inadequate testing. By switching to 2 monthly release's the development team have 5/6 weeks of work before passing the release off for 2/3 weeks testing to QA, so releases contain more fixes and are higher quality.

In addition we've changed to 2 major feature releases a year i.e. one every 6 months. These will be the releases where new functionality is introduced, but in some cases we will add new functionality in the 2-monthly releases, but only where it's approriate e.g. the razor support is actually a new module so has no core changes (whilst I've not tested, the razor module should work in older versions of DotNetNuke also).

The 5.6.1 release is not actually blocked by razor, it's in QA at the moment and development stopped 2 weeks ago, except for bugs that QA discover. We're waiting on some last minute Microsoft changes that may require razor module updates, but the 5.6.1 release is still planned for mid-January.

Thanks,
Cathal

Sandro, I don't know what radeditor problem you're talking about (there are a number of known issues), but you can see what is in 5.6.1 in the roadmap, as well as what is planned for 5.6.2 - http://support.dotnetnuke.com/project/Project.aspx?Tab=Roadmap&PROJID=2 . As the editor is a provider you can of course switch it to use the FCKEditor or download and install an alternative provider e.g. http://radeditor.codeplex.com/ (which as you can see is what we'll be changing to in 5.6.2)

Thanks Chatal for replay. I am talking about this issues: For standard RadEditor provide this one already logged into Gemini in date 29 Nov: http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=14495&PROJID=2 For DnnWerk there are a very similar issue already logged on codeplex in date 21 Nov: http://radeditor.codeplex.com/workitem/436 In this moment i am using FCK but for my users is not a good idea after using the RADEditor ones, to step back ! Thanks, Sandro
