I'm facing an error with the Dotnetnuke site search functionality and I'm hoping that someone might have faced this and have solved this. As you can make out, this very critical search function almost unusable for my travel portal.

In most of cases when visitors try to search on www.domain.com, I get a timeout. The error message that I get is as below

Error=Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

I found that database stored procedure "GetSearchResults" takes a lots of time to return result set for some common search words used in portal. It may be that this problem appears with larger portal and/or with keywords which occurs at many places in the portal.  The error is rampant when I search for words which is more popular on the website

If someone has come across this and has an idea on how to optimize the search stored procedure and has resolved this issue then please do let me know how to resolve this issue.
