Hi all,

Just wondered if there is a grid somewhere of what versions of DNN core modules are required for what versions of DNN. I've done upgrades several times and I'm pretty sure various core modules not included in the upgrade ie. events, feedback, etc need upgrading - but I'm not sure if they HAVE to be upgraded before I go to the latest version. Aside from investigating each one that turns up red in the Extensions area (a lot of them!) is there an easier way of finding this out ?

Many thanks

Rob

unfortunately Rob I don't think there's a single place to find out the dependency information for the core modules. This would be a great Wiki entry for us to get started though, we need a list of those modules and a good description of what each of them does. I'll see if I can't get that ball rolling.

At its team meeting this past week, the Community Team-Forge discussed reviewing all "core" extension projects at our Jan 27th meeting as to their activity status, last release, version and xhtml compatibility, project team lead, etc. In preparation for that I had already started an Excel spreadsheet summary of all core modules and am in the process of looking at versioning dependencies. What isl be harder to gather is known version dependency issues. For example, Gallery 4.04.00 (latest offical release) cannot be used with ASP.Net 4.0 or DNN versions greater than 5.04.04. while the 4.04.03 Release candidate (still in release tracker testing) can be.

Thanks Bill, that spreadsheet sounds useful, I'd be interested in having a look at it (and I'm sure others will too) when it's complete ! Many thanks Rob

If I read your question correctly, it's whether or not you NEED to upgrade the optional modules just because the core upgraded?  This is a great question in particular if you're looking to do something like upgrade the core to benefit from security updates, but are not quite ready to QA changes to modules.

In general, you'll never HAVE to upgrade modules with a core upgrade.  The reason for this is that it would imply a breaking change on behalf of the core, affecting the modules... which is something we simply don't do (and expressly try not too).  Having said that, there have been a couple of instances where updates for a particular module or two were required for one reason or another.  But when it is, we do our very best to make that clearly stated and obvious to all.

Having said that, there are no requirements to upgrade any of the optional modules in the 5.6.1 release.
