What is the correct way to apply an upgrade to DNN?  I installed last week, and today I am being alerted to critical updates.  I've pulled down the Upgrade file, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thank you!

I am not going to claim this is the Official/Best way, but I have been with DNN since v1.0 and this is the steps I take.

NOTE: When possible you should make a copy of your site (including database) and practice the upgrade on the copy site before actually upgrading your production site.

  1. Make a Backup of your Database
  2. Make a Backup (copy) of your Website
  3. Download the "Upgrade" Zip of DNN
  4. Stop your Website in IIS (or other web server)
  5. Extract the Upgrade zip overwriting the current site files
  6. Compare the Release.Config and Web.Config (copy changes from Release.Config to Web.Config)
  7. Start the Website in IIS
  8. Browse your Website to kick off the upgrade process

I hope this helps.

I think the information in the wiki is better.

Unblock the zip and the change of webconfig if your installation is 4.6.2  newer/older ...two steps to notice.

Thanks, I think this got me there. :)

I checked the wiki as well.  At any rate, it looks like I'm upgraded and working fine.

Thanks again!
