I'm using DNN 5.01.04 and am having trouble with a custom login page. Here's what I've done:

I've created a new page and added the login module to it.
I then set the Login Page in Site Settings -> Advanced Settings
I tested access to my login page by going to http://www.mysite.com/login.aspx. This was sucessful.
I thought that if I entered http://www.mysite.com?ctl=login I would be redirected to my new login page, but no.
I'm using friendly URLs, so I thought that maybe adding a custom match/replace might help so I added .*ctl=login -> ~/Login.aspx. This doesn't work either.

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Note that this site does the right thing, but how??

Lisa I would look at upgrading to the latest version of DNN 5.1.4 is rather old and there have been a TON of fixes and enhancements since then, including some URL issues

That would be nice, but I can't upgrade the .NET version (not anywhere near under my control) , so I'm stuck with 5.1.4 at the latest.

There are no built-in redirects in DNN.
The Siteurls.config file (the friendly url rules) are for rewriting, not redirecting.  You cannot redirect a request using them.

In order to redirect your login request, you'll have to setup a custom redirect specifically looking for the ?ctl=login page.

Could you test one thing? You've setup the Login page with a Login module on it right? Have you put any other modules on the page? If not, put on on it, put some content in it, make it visible to ALL USERS. Then try going to login.aspx and ?ctl=login see if you see the same content.
