Hi,
I just had a nasty scary upgrade experience on my live system but luckily with my backups got everything up and running again with no problems.
I'm upgrading from 5.2.3 to 5.6.1 and after a _long_ wait for anything to come up on the screen, it started trundling down the various things it was upgrading .... I almost got a pageful when bang! Firefox reports that The connection was reset.
I presume this is some sort of timeout ? I wonder if this is at the client end or the server end, unfortunately I was so petrified I didnt really note it down properly! I left it a minute and then tried one of our sites, and got the standard remote errors screen, so I guessed that the upgrade stopped half way and corrupted either the database and/or left the filesystem in an inconsistent state, so I restored both from backup.
I;ve already got long timeouts in my web.config for file uploads - can anyone suggest anything I can do? Is it a slow web server causing this?
Failing that, I guess I could restore locally, upgrade locally, then upload back to the server (upgrading locally worked as a test) - seems long winded solution though ...
Thanks in advance
Rob

you can update the executionTimeout if you like http://www.beansoftware.com/ASP.NET-FAQ/Change-Script-Timeout.aspx - please ensure you're not running in debug=true. However it's very unusual for an upgrade to take very long (unless it's a very large site). You might want to try moving up less versions in one go - the wiki has a suggested upgrade path - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Suggested_Upgrade_Path/Default.aspx
