Good afternoon,

I am running a test DNN installation to which our company's web designer has access so that they can build a new website and skin for a current web project that is going live in a few weeks.

Received a call from them today to inform me that in an attempt to relocate the host menu - it did not fit with the design - they navigated to the Admin | Pages menu, ticked the Manage Hosts tab button and deleted the Host tabs.

I could do a db restore, but that would result in them loosing a fair bit of work. Can anyone advise as to how i might be able to restore this vital navigational link?

The control panel Host link is still visible but it does nothing when clicked. We are running DNN 5.6.0 on win 2k8 R2.

with thanks
Michael

I didn't think you could delete the host pages. You can check in the dbo.Tabs table and see if they are still listed in there. Look for an isDeleted field. You could also try upgrading to 5.6.1, which from what I'm reading you should do anyways.

this is a know bug, if you save host pages, they get falsely current portalID applied. you need to fix it in Tabs table in the database.

Thanks for your input - discovered an earlier post which indicated that I needed to change some values in the tab table.

The following SQL scripts were run:

·         UPDATE Tabs SET PortalID = Null where TabPath Like '//Host%' AND PortalID Is Not Null

·         UPDATE Tabs SET ParentId = Null where TabID=7

Turns out that the host tab was moved under Home and set to not show in menu.

All sorted now.

thanks
Michael

Hello,

I have run into the same problem with my new installation of 5.6.1 but following the steps above has not solved it for me.  I originally unchecked "show in menu" so that the Admin and Host menus wouldn't break the width of my skin.  It appeared to be fine, but when you clicked on the Host link in the upper right of the control panel, it gave a blank page.  I messed around in Admin>Pages, but gave up.  Today, the Host link is missing altogether from the control panel.  The only way to reach those pages is through the host tab of the Ribbonbar.  I tried running the queries above and restarting the application, but it did not help.

I also tried installing OliverHine's Advanced Control Panel module, but it didn't help.  The Host link appeared but would show no options upon hover and no redirect upon click.  I un-installed it because I couldn't even get to the options under the Host menu (how I could with the normal ribbonbar) and couldn't get to the Host Settings in order to select the normal ribbon bar.  I hacked around the DB until I at least got the Ribbonbar back and access to the Host subitems.

I would really appreciate any guidance, as this is a catastrophic error for my end users and I have a feeling this won't be the last time I hit it if this is a known issue.  Here are the first few fields for my install:  TabID = 7, TabOrder = -1, PortalID = NULL, TabName = Host, IsVisible = 0, ParentID = NULL, Level = 0, DisableLink = 0, IsDeleted = 0, and I'm not sure if the other fields are needed for this problem.  Thank you in advance!
