Hi all,

I am creating a bespoke basic module.  I'm also new to DNN module development.

I am trying to use the following code to distinguish the PortalSettings.UserMode:

01.public partial class DesktopModules__UserModeTest_View : PortalModuleBase
02.{
03.    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
04.    {
05.        if (this.PortalSettings.UserMode == DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.Mode.Edit)
06.        {
07.            // do something
08.        }
09.        else if (this.PortalSettings.UserMode == DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.Mode.View)
10.        {
11.            // do something
12.        }
13.        else
14.        {
15.            // do something
16.        }
17.    }
18.}

It seems to work fine when I'm logged in as an admin and I am switching between view modes.

The problem is when using this logic against a  regular registered user, as they always seem to appear in Edit mode, even though their permissions are just to view a tab.  What's the best way to tackle this?

Thanks

I've decided to check whether the user is a super user in order to carry out the logic instead of checking the view mode

I am having the same problem!  I have the following code:

        Private Function IsEditMode() As Boolean
            Dim ps As DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings
            ps = CType(HttpContext.Current.Items("PortalSettings"), DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings)
            Return ps.UserMode = DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.Mode.Edit
        End Function

With non administrative users, it always returns true!  Can anyone help?
