Hi again.

Yep, I think the "issue" is that by it's nature, the newsfeed module lists the most recent news first. Which in the case of the events module is the event in the distant future based on the number of days it is feeding via RSS.

I see from some of the postings in the newsfeed forum the module is barely being supported and hasn't been updated in over a 1-1/2 years. That being the case, the chances of getting any sort of help with this particular issue is highly unlikely.

I did find a free newsfeed module from the folkes at Coding Staff (Feed Burner) and even though it has no settings beyond the URL for the RSS feed, it does sort the dates in the order I need them. The issue now is that there is no control of the number of items in the feed. And I only want to list 4 or 5 entries. Oh well -- so close ;-)

Thanks anyway. And sorry to bother you guys with something that should have been brought up in the newsfeed forum in the first place.

Jim

Hi Jim,

All is not lost. Have a look here - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W.... This explains some parameters you can provide to the RSS feed including MaxNumber which limits the number of events output in the RSS feed.

Cheers
Roger

Excellent! Adding MaxNumber to the URL works great.

I did have a couple of questions:

1. In the Events module settings, how do the Template Settings for the RSS feed title / description relate to the RSS settings?

I've tried changing both the RSS Settings / Feed Title and RSS Settings / Feed Description with no difference in what the News Feed module is being fed. I've also changed the Template Settings / RSS Feed - Event Title and Template Settings - RSS Feed - Event Description with no difference in the actual feed. And I did try refreshing the cache each time.

Regardless of how any of the RSS settings are configured in the events settings, all I ever see is being fed is:

event title -  event date event start time
event importance
event description

2. Another odd thing when viewing using Chrome. I've tried both the Coding Staff "feed burner" and the DNN core News Feeds module and both of them just result in a "progress" indicator and no content being shown when viewed using Google Chrome. I can't figure why it would make any difference as to what browser I'm using.

As always, thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Jim,

Can you point me at your site, and I can test in different browsers. I've pretty much just checked with IE, but I think I also ran a validator against it as well, and it checked out OK.

The settings are probably slightloy confusing at the moment. The RSS Title/Description in the RSS settings section are one off settings against the whole feed. In IE feed reader it only shows the title, not sure what happens to description. The templates for RSS Title/Description are then applied on a per event basis.

I assume you did click 'Update Template' and not 'Update Settings' when you changed the template. I've just done changes to the templates on my test system, and they change correctly.

Cheers
Roger

I notice Chrome has no built in support for RSS! I guess I'm kinda suprised on that.... Don't know if that has anything to do with your problem.
