I'm looking for clarity on how/if DNN handles having a single user in multiple portals in a single DNN instance.

In reading everything I could find through Google, it's really unclear...
It seems in some versions of DNN, as long as you used the same username and password, you should be able to register on the 2nd portal but the profile information would not be shared.

Using 5.6.1, I'm trying to do this but I just get a message stating: A User Already Exists For the Username Specified. Please Register Again Using A Different Username.

I've tried manually adding the user to the portal through the UserPortals table and restarting the app, but that didn't do it.

So, is it possible in the current version of DNN to do this without using 3rd party modules? Is this supposed to be added in a future version?

Once I get the right info, I'm going to add this subject to the DNN Wiki.

After further investigation, it does seem that it works fine to re-register the user using the same password on the 2nd portal. It wasn't working for us because the user's "IsApproved" flag in the aspnet_membership table had been set to false so the user actually wasn't able to login to either database.

I posted a summary of how to have users in multiple DNN portals to the wiki. Please add any additional detail or info you think might be appropriate.

Wondering if there is a way to have a single user database for multiple portals. So in other words, a user would register an account on a DNN portal and be able to use the same credentials to sign-in another DNN portal without the need to re-register the user.
