Hello.

I know it has been asked before, but why we can embed a youtube video in a Blog post and not in a Forum post.

I dont' get it. Aren't the "filters" global ?

Thanks

It depends on the html editor you are using for forums. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the core blog module anymore, so I'm not sure how it's allowing embeded code.

For example if you are using RadEditor, it will not have this feature available by default, but is available.

Add the Past As Html Tool to your tools.xml file.

<tool name="PasteAsHtml"/>

You can also copy the embeded HTML from Youtube, then switch your html editor to HTML mode (lower left-hand corner of the editor window) and paste in your code. Click save.

I have tried all the above and also tried CKeditor, NONE works. It gets stripped for some (security ?) reason.

HI Costas

I do not think the editor used has anything to do with it.
The problem seems to be the core filter stripping out any YouTube mark up before it has been sent to the db

Active forums does allow Youtube markup ?

All in all this is another reason to be grateful that Active forums are about to be included in CE.
That said I suppose it will depend on how AF is implemented as to whether it will allow YouTube clips.

There is a way around the YouTube "filters" for forum posts.

  1. Write your post as desired.
  2. Switch to HTML view.
  3. Paste the YouTube code into the post (make sure it's the old-style Embed code and not the new iFrame version).
  4. Strip out the opening Object tag and everything up to but not including the opening Embed tag.
  5. Strip out the closing Embed tag and everything after that. (Yes, that will leave the Embed tag unclosed, but submitting the post will close it for you.)
  6. Submit the post without switching back to Design view.
If you later need to edit the post, after you edit it switch to HTML view and remove the new closing tag before pressing Submit.

Edit: This technique doesn't seem to work anymore for the current version of Forums.
