Hi Folks,

I have a jpg graphic that we load using the Logo section under Appearance on the Site Settings page so it is at the top of every page. It's actually sort of a logo/banner that extends across the page and looks fine up to resolution 1024 X 768. On higher resolutions that you find with newer hardware and Win 7 it only goes a little more than half way across. The documentation seems to indicate that it is anchored to the top left although it implies it is skin dependent. Is there any way to float this so it stays centered or am I going to have to do something like load it into an IFrame and center it in the top pane on all my pages?

Also I have been researching what some folks are calling responsive or flexible or fluid design. Is anyone applying these techniques to DNN in a big way? DNN 5 maybe?

Thanks,

G. M.

it depends, how the skin of the site is built, whether it centers the Logo skin object on top of the browser window.

Thanks very much for the quick reply Sebastian. I just got some CSS from the skin vendor and put it in the portal.css file. It doesn’t adjust the size of the graphic which changes with resolution but keeps it in the center which works well for the site in question.

How about the responsive or flexible or fluid design idea? Not only are the newer machines and operating systems creating challenges for display of graphics with better resolution etc. But now you have all these new devices like smart phones, iPads, etc. with different display characteristics. I am starting to get inquiries on that sort of thing. These smart devices, iPads, etc. don't look like they are going away. I think we are going to have to deal with them. Some of the solutions I have read about suggest using CSS or JavaScript to determine the resolution or orientation and then supplying different pages for different situations. That doesn't sound like the greatest solution to me. However, I have to confess I am behind the curve on a lot of the new display methods and technologies. Is there anything going on with DNN to address this or to suggest best practices or are there any companies marketing skins with this responsive approach?

Thanks again,
G. M.
