Vladan, one thing I'm still not clear about is how you (and others) have addressed the 'DNN Core User Controls' problems in development.  Are they simply not being used?  While that seems to be the easy way out, it's not terribly beneficial.

I saw that there was some discussion about a proposed solution involving a change to the core, making the controls ‘server’ controls, but somehow I don’t see that as being too realistic.

Could you please detail how you get these controls to work in development?

Thanks!

mwilgar,

As you can read from the same thread where you read this information - you still can use them, but you don't have intellisense support in Visual Studio (VS does not recognize them).

What I can telll you is that I will try to speak to the core guys about this, but the ball on that one is on their side... so to speak about it with them is the best I can do at this point.

Thanks,

Vladan,

I'm aware that intellisense doesn't work with the DNN User Controls, and while inconvenient, that isn’t really stopping us.

What is more of a problem is that the designer creates it’s declarations for the controls (in the partial class .designer files) as ‘UserControl’ objects, instead of, say, ‘TextEditor’.  This then causes a compilation error when code such as MyTextEditor.Text = “foo” hits a property that the ‘UserControl’ doesn’t support.  Sure, we can always CType the object to the ‘real’ type, but that’s just a whole lot of code changes for no benefit.

So, realizing that we’re all facing this problem, and it sounds like a bunch of folks have managed to work it out, I’d love to learn how!

Thanks!
