I have upgraded over 11 DNN sites with no issues at all with 5.6.2 - however last night I went to do my final upgrade and this is where problems started:

1. The upgrade went through successfully - no errors at all.
2. Upon returning to the portal I can access the home page
3. Trying to navigate to any other page does not work. DotNetNuke Error page that states 'An error has occurred' with a return to site button.
4. I can login and get to the admin and host pages, but nothing else.

Any thoughts here?

I sometimes find that happens directly after an upgrade but it always goes back to normal after a few minutes. Haven't a clue why though.

 Really, I will try again and leave it sit for about an hour and see what happens... Strange. I have never encountered this before. Anyone else?

Yes, it's happened to me two or three times but not on the 5.6.2 upgrade though.

please check, whether compression is turned off in Host Settings.
