Thanks Don, its nice to hear some good words about the module even though its being retired! As the author of the module, I really do appreciate it. I do, however, want to clarify a few things.
- I will be working with Will M (Active Modules) to help him anywhere I can make Active Forums 'more complete'.
- The Twitter integration from the blog was removed because of Twitter API changes and it never being finished properly, not because of Active Social (It was decided long before Active Forums was even being discussed).
- The idea of social sharing will not be restricted to pay only DotNetNuke products, all core modules and Forge projects are free to do as they see fit. I expect any social sharing solution we come up with to be freely available to all module developers (otherwise, its somewhat useless IMO).
Thanks for the info there. And thank you for all the work on the now "former" DNN forums. They've been great!

According to Will Morgenweck's blog, integration of ActiveForums and ActiveSocial is scheduled for DNN 6.2 (Q3 2011). There will be a migration path from Core Forums and current ActiveForums versions
Thanks for the info there as well. Looks like I'll be holding off on a couple site upgrades.

So why is it that people like myself have willingly paid for a forum for many years? No offense but in general core 'modules' have not been maintained very well or improved.
I've had a few Active Forums licenses, and reverted all the forums I ran back to the DNN forums (and 1 other forum). Active Forums were good, but I had a couple minor problems that I'd emailed support for and posted in the forums. When my support request posts were deleted and support emails ignored, it was just easier to move on.
There were some nice things in AF that I missed, but they weren't deal breakers. The deal breaker for me was the disrepect of having support requests deleted in the forums. When it came to the DNN forums, the support level in the DNN forums (the actual community forums, not the module) was better. So it basically came down to which product was supported better. Money was never an issue. I would have paid for any forums that worked well and were well supported.

I agree. If it's going to be bundled into the core in a couple of months, then make the current version available free now so people can stop wasting their time with other products. Snowcovered doesn't even have a way to let you download the "lite" (free) version, and some of the links back to the ActiveSocial website are broken. All in all, doesn't look very professional or fair to those who aren't aware of the changes, and end up throwing away good money on a product with limited lifetime.
I had the same problem when looking there with the broken link. However, you can find the AF lite version here:
http://www.activemodules.com/download...
You'll need to register/login, but the download is there.
I didn't see any of my past AF version license purchases there, so I don't know if old versions have been removed or not. (I may have used a different account too... It's been quite a while since I ran an AF forum.)
