I currently have an installation of DNN running on a hosting environment.  The site has been running great for months, but I just noticed this past weekend that the main site alone with all child portals were down.   Error message was "Server Error in /web Application" when I try to hit any of the pages.   I have not been on any of the sites in over a month.  So not sure why all of a sudden they would all crash.
To resolve I tried a couple of things.  (I limited to what I can actually do because it is on a hosted environment).   I reset the db password in SQL and in config file, recycled app pool and also upgraded to 5.6.2.   One of these triggered the app to start working again.   It ran fine for a day or so and then I noticed it was down again.    Any ideas?   I know you can restart the application for portals when your in side the host.   But since I cant even bring that up is there a way to do this from command line?  Not sure what else to do

You have to have someone with experience to check DB, Logs and Files in the folder. There are many different reasons why this can be happened.

Try to make a minor change in web.config and then save it. It should recycle the application and get it restarted. Once you are in, look at Log entries in DNN itself. See if there any exception being thrown that may be causing your site to go down.
On hosted environment, one common problem is a rogue site jacking up all resources on the server especially DB connection pool and bringing other sites down.
