Hello,

I am experiencing a problem on one of my DNN sites with the HTML editor. If it enter <br/> in the HTML view of the HTML module, toggle to design view, and then toggle back to HTML view the HTML code is <br></br> and the more I toggle back and forth the more it gets messed up. After toggling back a few times I get a ton of odd line breaks. The HTML editor is behaving drastically different than the HTML editors on my other installations I have. Unfortunately, I have 4 parent portals on this site and they all have the same issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Come to think of it... I just upgraded to DNN 5.6.2 and started to have this problem. In fact, I just tried it out with the editor that I am using to write this reply and it is doing the same exact thing! It is very difficult to edit my sites like this and I have already messed up some instances of the HTML module on my sites.

Sounds like maybe a problem with 5.6.2?

Any help is always appreciated.

Thank you.

There are 2 ways to fix this.

I assume that you're using Telerik editor.

FTP and locate this file: ConfigDefault.xml
\Providers\HtmlEditorProviders\Telerik\Config\ConfigDefault.xml

Open it using text editor and look for line 25:
<_property name="NewLineBr">true
and change it to
false

It will not use br as line break then.

If you're referring to <_br /> vs <_br> issue, you will need to set your page's as strict xhtml. You could however hack this file:
\Providers\HtmlEditorProviders\Telerik\Dialogs\XhtmlValidator.ascx to achieve that, I believe.

Thanks,
George

Hey George,

Thanks for the help. I did the first thing you mentioned (changed <_property name="NewLineBr">true to false). This only added a </p> instead of a <br/> when I hit the enter key in design view in the HTML editor. If I add a <br/> in HTML mode and toggle between design and HTML mode the same problem occurs.

The <br/> tag worked prior to my DNN 5.6.2 upgrade. Is there a way to COMPLETELY fix this problem so I can successfully use the <br/> tag again?

Thank you for your solution. It helps add spaces between lines of text, but if I want to force a new line and not have a space between the text, which would be accomplished with one <br/>, the </p> won't work because it just creates a new paragraph after that with a space between the two paragraphs.

Once again, thank you for your help and any additional help is greatly appreciated!
