Hi,

I've dug through everything I can find on this error and triple checked my settings but my users keep getting this error when returning to the site after a timeout or logout.  I have AD setup and working correctly at other sites and haven't run into this issue (though they are running older versions of DNN).

Here are the details about the site:
Type of site: Intranet only
DNN Version: 5.6.2 Community Edition
DNN AD Provider: DNN_ActiveDirectoryAuthentication 5.0.3
Windows Server: Server 2008 (IIS 7)
App Pool: Classic .Net AppPool (2.0)
AD version: not sure

I've followed the guidelines in the Active Directory User Guide (5.0.2).  I have all the permissions setup and Anonymous Authentication disabled and Windows Authentication enabled for the WindowsSignin.aspx file.  I also have the site setup in the trusted site for the browser.  I haven't manually changed anything in the web.config file.

Here's what happens.  The first time a user goes to the site they get the Error while processing Windows Authentication (Check your IIS settings. DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx should NOT allow anonymous access.)  When they hit refresh it takes them to the site not logged in.  They click on the login button and they are able to login with their AD user id and password and if they click remember me they are able to close the browser, re-open and go back to the site and they are auto logged in.  The issue is once they timeout or when they go back to the site the following day, they are greeted with the Error while processing Windows Authentication message.

I can re-create without the timeout by clearing my cookies. I'm not sure what I'm missing, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck, where did you download the 5.0.3 version? Is it an upgrade from the 5.0.2 version? I ran into the same problem on the production install here @ work back at the beginning of June when attempting to fix a bug that was reported. I don't remember what I did to fix it but I think all I did was upload the working version of the provider and it started working fine. I didn't think much about it as I figured it was just happening to me and it hasn't happened since. Also our server is still running Server 2003.

I downloaded 5.0.3 from the codeplex site: http://dnnauthad.codeplex.com/releases/view/65368.

I didn't do it as an upgrade, just a straight first time install. Do you think I should install 5.0.2?
Thanks,
Chuck

Nope, 5.0.2 shouldn't be required. I was just trying to determine why it was happening to you. Have you considered running the two commands at the bottom of the release notes and running the site under the Integrated Pipeline?

I just ran the appcmd config changes, changed the app pool to ASP .Net v4.0 (Integrated) and recycled everything. Still getting the error upon startup (after a timeout or when I clear cookies).

I don't understand what the difference is when DNN/IIS is re-directing to WindowsSignin or when I just hit refresh on the error (or link there directly). It doesn't work when DNN does it but works when I manually do it.

I don't see anything abnormal in the DNN event log or IIS log. The event viewer doesn't have anything out of the ordinary for the time when I receive the error but I do have a few timeout errors recorded:

Event code: 4005
Event message: Forms authentication failed for the request. Reason: The ticket supplied has expired.

Any other places I can look to try to get a sniff of what might be happening?

Thanks,
Chuck
