I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this problem.  I've been working on creating a module and had a version of it working.  I was making some changes to it and started to get this message - DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Literal content (' - associated with the module.  I tried backing out all of the changes I made but the error persists.  I tried deleting the module from the page and adding it back in but again the error persists.

In IE the only information I get is where 'My Account' refers to the module I added to the page:
Error: My Account is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Literal content ('

In Firefox the error is a little longer but no more enlightening to my beginner's eyes with 'My Account  again referring to the module that I'm working on:
Error: My Account is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Literal content ('') is not allowed within a 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridColumnCollection'. ---> System.Web.HttpParseException: Literal content ('') is not allowed within a 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridColumnCollection'. ---> System.Web.HttpParseException: Literal content ('') is not allowed within a 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridColumnCollection'. ---> System.Web.HttpException: Literal content ('') is not allowed within a 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridColumnCollection'. at System.Web.UI.CollectionBuilder.AppendLiteralString(String s) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ProcessLiteral() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ProcessException(Exception ex) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ParseStringInternal(String text, Encoding fileEncoding) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ParseString(String text, VirtualPath virtualPath, Encoding fileEncoding) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ParseString(String text, VirtualPath virtualPath, Encoding fileEncoding) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ParseFile(String physicalPath, VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ParseInternal() at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.Parse() at System.Web.Compilation.BaseTemplateBuildProvider.get_CodeCompilerType() at System.Web.Compilation.BuildProvider.GetCompilerTypeFromBuildProvider(BuildProvider buildProvider) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildProvidersCompiler.ProcessBuildProviders() at System.Web.Compilation.BuildProvidersCompiler.PerformBuild() at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.CompileWebFile(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile, Boolean throwIfNotFound, Boolean ensureIsUpToDate) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile, Boolean throwIfNotFound, Boolean ensureIsUpToDate) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResult(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile, Boolean ensureIsUpToDate) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.ControlUtilities.LoadControl[T](TemplateControl containerControl, String ControlSrc) at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.LoadModuleControl() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,
Is there something like this : in your code?
If so,please check them: Do you well formed "<%"? Do you mixed the Single quotation marks and the Double quotation marks ? Do you missing the other half of Single quotation marks or Double quotation marks?

Thank you so much for your reply.  I went thru the code searching for all instances of '<%#' and only found 2 of them. Neither of them had a problem with unmatched quotes.  I have also tried commenting out all of the code in the codebehind and on the html side of the module and the problem still occurs. At this point the only options I can think of to try are to start building from scratch or installing a clean version of DNN so I'm starting fresh.  If you can think of anything else I might try before resorting to those steps I would appreciate it.

Just for additional info about the environment - I am using DNN 5.01 and Visual Web Developer 2010 Express.

Thanks again for idea.

In particular check for literal characters, mis-matched single or double quotes, improper nesting of tags, etc.  between the <Columns> . . . . </Columns> start and end tags in the datagrid control located in the module's .ascx markup.

William you are a life safer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found a double quote in one of the bound columns.  Once I removed it, no more error.  And I've now gone thru and uncommented all of the code I had commented out and I'm back to where I was before this problem arose.

Thank you SO much for pointing me in the right direction!!!
